Vale Keva North (1934-2026)

Gardener, champion of historic gardens and pioneer of garden journalism, Keva North, died on May 8 in Canberra (formerly of ‘Yarrabin’, Bowral in New South Wales). She was 92.

Her long and large contribution to Australia’s horticultural media is outlined by Dennis McManus and John Stowar in an obituary published in the July issue of Australian Garden History.

Keva was married to the late Tim North and together the couple produced Garden Cuttings and later The Australian Garden Journal, which from 1983 until 1989 was the official journal of the Australian Garden History Society.

Her life and gardening philosophy were celebrated in the book Garden Cuttings Revisited, which features her original photographs and insights into the early years of the Australian Garden History Society. Her papers have been lodged as the Keva North Collection in the Caroline Simpson Library in Sydney.

Keva will be remembered with great fondness by many members of HMAA.
