Vale Sue Bampton

It is with great sadness that we share the news that Sue Bampton, a long-term HMAA member, died on June 15.

Sue Bampton was a highly regarded Gold Coast-based landscape designer and horticulturist who has been actively working in the industry since 1988. She was managing director of Grotec Landscape Solutions, a prolific landscape speaker, and a long-time member of the Horticultural Media Association of Australia. She is highly recognised for educating homeowners on sustainable gardening, developing live soil foundations, and creating thriving, water-wise environments. She also produced tutorial videos.

In a message posted on Sue’s Facebook page she was remembered as her spirit will live on in the gardens she nurtured, the places she explored, and the many hearts she touched:

“It is with heavy hearts and sadness that we share that our beautiful Sue passed away peacefully on Monday, 15th June, 2026.

“Sue lived life with a sense of wonder, curiosity and adventure. She found joy in nature, loved her gardens and plants, and was happiest exploring the beauty of the world around her. Whether it was a walk among the trees, caring for something growing, setting off on a new adventure, or getting up for a dance, she embraced life wholeheartedly.

“Sue was incredibly resilient, facing life’s challenges with strength, grace and determination. She had a deeply kind and gentle soul, a beautiful smile that could light up a room, and a warmth that made people feel instantly welcome. Her compassion, generosity and genuine care for others touched the lives of so many.

“While our hearts are broken, we are grateful for the love, laughter, adventures and memories she leaves behind. Her spirit will live on in the gardens she nurtured, the places she explored, and the many hearts she touched.

“Sue will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten. Sue’s wish was not for a large memorial service, but for those who knew and loved her to celebrate her life by sharing stories, memories, and moments that made her so special.”
