In late November Leigh Siebler represented Horticultural Media Association Australia (VIC) at the Victorian Schools Garden Program. The program helps get schools involved in plants and gardens. About 400 young children, support staff and volunteers enjoyed time in Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne celebrating the 45th annual awards. This was the first face-to-face award ceremony in two years.
St Louis de Monfort’s School at Aspendale took home the top award, the Kevin Heinze Perpetual Award. The school features all types of gardens – edible, sensory, indigenous and vertical – as well as a fernery, grapevines, along with chicken, guinea pig, turtle, lizard and frog enclosures.
The program was started by Kevin Heinze and Paul Crowe and is supported by HMAA.
