Valerie Zwart relocates to Victoria

Valerie enjoys a day out at the gardens with family members Leh-Anne and Mark.

Life Member of HMAA Valerie Zwart has always been keen on adventure and recently expressed great excitement at the prospect of another challenge. The inaugural Queensland media member and nonagenarian has relocated permanently from her home in Nambour on the Sunshine Coast to Victoria to be closer to family.

After flying to Melbourne in late January, Valerie spent a three-day mandatory period in COVID isolation and is currently in a respite facility awaiting the move to her new permanent home in Camberwell. While COVID restrictions did not allow for a large send-off, a number of Queensland media members were able to catch up with Valerie over coffee or on the phone in the fortnight before her flight. Tohm Hanjcl was treated to a piano recital by Valerie during his visit. Long-time friend Barbara Wickes helped Valerie pack, while other members and industry colleagues sent cards and flowers.

Valerie has contributed so much to the Queensland media group over her more than two decades of involvement including holding local executive positions for around 10 years. Members will miss her regular attendance at meetings and industry events.

Valerie is revelling in her move interstate and has already been seen out and about visiting the Melbourne Botanic Gardens and other local horticultural highlights.
