HMAA secretary George Hoad gave an appropriate and much appreciated ending to the fabulous night at The Laurels with his rendition of a song that celebrated the winners. George penned this clever piece just the night before the event and performed at the end of the evening.
Many members may not know that George has a history as a professional theatre and musical performer. He proved that he’s forgotten none of those skills and wowed the audience as he closed the evening with this HMAA-tailored version of Cole Porter’s song ‘You’re the top’. It was fantastic. See George’s words below and scroll to the end for a recording.
Judy Horton, HMAA President
You’re the top
(To the tune of Cole Porter’s You’re the top)
At words poetic, I’m so pathetic
As I’ll probably miss a bar
But if this ditty is not so witty
At least it’ll tell you
How great they are
They’re the top!
Horticultural Heroes
They’re the top!
Great Gardening gurus
They’re a blushing rose with a fragrance hard to beat
They’re a cut above
Go hand in glove
Green thumbed elite
They’re the peak
Of propagation
They’re unique, a hort sensation
Call a spade a spade, in sun or shade, prize crop
A cheshire grinner, a proven winner, they’re the top!
George Hoad (with apologies to Cole Porter)
And, with the magic of AI, here’s a rendition of George’s song.
