Book launch supports frog research

Prolific writer and Queensland Horticultural Media member, Kate Wall, is celebrating the launch of her second, self-published gardening book titled, ‘Earth Repair Gardening; The lazy gardener’s guide to saving the Earth’. This follows on from her bestselling 2019 release, ‘Working with Weeds: A practical guide to understanding, managing and using weeds.

Kate’s experience visiting and being involved in professional garden maintenance as well as generally proving horticultural advice to gardeners and was the catalyst for her latest book.

As an environmental scientist turned professional gardener, the idea that gardens could be anything other than incredibly alive and sustainable ecosystems was incongruous to me, and yet, here I was in so many gardens that were devoid of insect life, filled with chemicals and bare soil cooking in the sun. So, I have spent many years gradually working to bring a greater environmental awareness into gardening, culminating in this book.

In the book, Kate invites us to sit back, relax and let our gardens offset some of our carbon footprint. The book contains all the information we need to make a real and positive contribution towards climate change, while doing what we love most – gardening!

Kate is planning a special ‘frog-themed’ launch event on the evening of Friday 12 November at Reload Espresso Bar, 9 Chrome St Salisbury in Brisbane. Kate will explain what Earth Repair Gardening actually is and provide tips on what we can do easily to make our gardens more sustainable. A guest speaker will also talk about frog friendly gardening on the night in recognition of the plight of frogs and the recent spate of mysterious frog deaths in Australia (see this article.).

For a fun twist, original drawings from the book will be auctioned off to raise money for ongoing frog research providing a great chance to take home a unique art work while making a difference in a frog’s life! Tickets to the launch are available on eventbrite.com.au

HMAA members are invited to purchase a copy of ‘Earth Repair Gardening; The lazy gardener’s guide to saving the Earth’ directly from Kate ahead of the official launch via her website katewall.com.au. Alternatively, you can ask your local bookstore to order it in or visit an online bookstore.
