Grow It Local Community & Gardening Tour 👌🏼🥬

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Grow It Local Community & Gardening Tour 👌🏼🥬

Grow It Local is proud to announce the Grow It Local Community & Gardening Tour, an 18-stop gardening journey across Western Australia, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland during March and April 2026. The tour is being delivered in partnership with Yates and Seasol and is mission to celebrate local food growing communities and to help gardens grow!

Across the 6-week tour, Paul West and the Grow It Local team will roll up their sleeves in patches around the country – working side-by-side with local growers to prepare seasonal beds, sow seeds, feed plants, condition soil, water plants and food growing knowledge and skills.

The tour is as much a celebration as it is a hands-on working bee: shining a light on the people, places and stories behind some of Australia’s most inspiring gardens and local growing communities.

“The Grow It Local Community & Gardening Tour is about educating, supporting and celebrating local growing communities – and helping gardens grow,” said Paul West, Co-Founder of Grow It Local.

Grow It Local and Garage Sale Trail cofounder Darryl Nichols commented “When you grow food, you grow much more than a garden, you’re helping to grow stronger, healthier and more resilient communities.”

Each day of the tour, Paul and the team will share behind-the-scenes updates and stories via @growitlocal on Instagram, giving Australians a window into what’s growing on in communities across the country.

Why growing food matters

New findings from Grow It Local Impact Report – 2025, produced in collaboration between Taverner Research, reveal that growing food delivers benefits far beyond the garden:

  • 🌱 79% grow food to eat fresh, healthy produce
  • 🌼 73% grow to live more sustainably
  • 🧠 71% say growing boosts their mental health and wellbeing
  • 🌿 66% feel more connected to nature
  • ♻️ 83% compost food scraps diverting waste from landfill
  •  🐝 91% include plants that attract pollinators

These results reinforce that growing food is a simple, inclusive and powerful action that strengthens community resilience, reduces waste, and improves wellbeing.

Proudly supported by partners

The Grow It Local Community & Gardening Tour is made possible with the support of local councils, and national community partners Yates and Seasol.
