HMAA President Judy Horton had a quick family visit to north west Tassie this week but was able to grab some time to visit friend and colleague Jennifer Stackhouse at Barrington.
In typical Tassie style the gorgeous spring weather of a few days ago had given way to icy winds and showers but I was still able to wander in Jennifer’s garden, which is ablaze with spring flowers including aquilegias galore, clematis, rhododendrons, iris, wisteria and late bulbs. The rain right through late winter and spring has meant lots of lush green growth so the whole of this part of Tasmania is lush and green at the moment.
I didn’t come empty handed. I gave Jennifer a lovely, pink-flowered leptospermum ‘Rhiannon’ bred by Bywong Nursery and helped pull up a few weeds as she was getting the garden ready for visitors.
The garden is open regularly for visiting garden groups including an ASA Tour led by Sabrina Hahn later this month, and for the local open garden weekend, Kentish GardenFEST, which is held on the last weekend of November.
If anyone else is travelling in north west Tasmania and feels like a visit or a hand with weeding, Jennifer promises a warm welcome and homemade raspberry muffins.
PS The sun came out after I left!
