Drones successfully distribute tree seeds

A report in The Times (June 24) claims a rewilding experiment using drones to disperse tree seeds on part of Scotland’s west coast has yielded promising results, with higher-than-expected rates of germination.

The initiative is one of the first of its kind in the UK to target temperate rainforest restoration using the technology, which researchers believe could be a faster, cheaper method of rewilding.

Supported by the University of Edinburgh and drone specialists Auto Spray Systems, the trial took place on land near Roshven, Lochaber. The property owners are partnering in the Northwoods Rewilding Network managed by charity Scotland: The Big Picture.
