Australian horticulture industry dedicates $5M to eradicate tomato brown rugose fruit virus

The detection of tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) in the Northern Adelaide Plains has triggered a $5 million eradication response – and we’ve played a big part in making this happen.

ToBRFV is highly transmissible and affects tomatoes, capsicums and chillies, posing a significant biosecurity threat to the production nursery sector. The virus has been contained to three linked properties, but a widespread outbreak could result in export restrictions and regulatory challenges, as well as damage to Australia’s reputation as a trusted supplier of high-quality greenlife products.

The government and industry are collaborating to protect trade, food security and the future of Australian horticulture from ToBRFV.
