VALE – ELAINE DAWN FLEMING (DAWN)
23/02/1937 – 30/05/2026
It is with much sadness we announce the passing of Dawn Fleming. She passed away peacefully on Saturday night. She is survived by her three children Dani, Graham and Wes, and her 14 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Dawn leaves behind a family who will proudly continue her and her late husband, Don’s legacy in horticulture.
HMAA is saddened to see the above announcement of Dawn Fleming’s death on May 30, which was posted on the Fleming’s Nurseries Facebook page where you can also leave your comments and condolences.
We are sure everyone in HMAA has had contact with Dawn or with others in the Fleming family over the years. Dawn and Don Fleming brought many wonderful ornamental and productive trees to Australia including Ballerina apples and willing shared their advice and knowledge.
The nursery continues to produce great trees and shrubs and introduce new varieties. Huge condolences to the Fleming family as we remember the wonderful Dawn Fleming.
Tribute from HMAA
On behalf of HMAA, President Judy Horton has written a letter of condolence to Wes Fleming, which is reproduced below.
Dear Wes
On behalf of the Horticultural Media Association of Australia, I am writing to express our members’ condolences to you and your family with regard to Dawn’s passing.
Your mother did so much to promote horticulture in Australia and her dedication to the industry will be greatly missed. We all appreciated her generosity and support as a founding member of Encouraging Women in Horticulture, her endless sharing of horticultural knowledge and the patient and cheerful way she helped so many HMAA members when they were seeking information.
She was an outstanding contributor to our industry, and we will all miss her. Please pass on to your family our recognition of Dawn’s life and accept the condolences of all members of HMAA on your loss.
Yours sincerely
Judy Horton OAM MAIH (Ret)
President, Horticultural Media Association of Australia
