Tropical soda apple (Solanum viarum) has recently been found in the Stony Creek area near Woodford (City of Moreton Bay).
This highly invasive weed is prohibited in Queensland and spreads rapidly in disturbed areas, often linked to cattle movement. It poses a serious threat to pastures, crops and natural areas.
Look for thorny shrubs up to 2 metres tall, hairy, prickly leaves and stems, white flowers with 5 recurved petals and yellow fruits. Immature fruits are mottled light and dark green.
It can be mistaken for the native species, Solanum ditrichum, found in the area.
If you spot this weed, report it immediately to Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or online
