Swinburne University to Discontinue Horticulture Program

After reviewing their Horticulture Department and considering feedback received during the consultation period, Swinburne has decided to discontinue offering Horticulture courses in the future.
Many of their current students will complete their courses by the end of this year and will receive their qualification from Swinburne.
For those students who are not in their final year of studies, they will be supported to transition to Holmesglen Institute in 2024, where they can complete the remainder of their studies in Certificate III in Horticulture, Certificate III in Landscape Construction, Certificate III in Parks and Gardens, Certificate III Conservation and Ecosystem, Diploma of Landscape Design and Diploma of Conservation and Ecosystem Management courses.
As there is no suitable direct provider to transfer students in the Certificate III in Nursery Operations, Diploma of Horticulture and Certificate II in Horticulture & Certificate II in Landscaping courses, Swinburne will continue to teach these to currently enrolled students until they have completed their studies.
The Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria (NGIV) will continue to work with government agencies to support the transition. We feel for those affected employers and students and wish everyone the best through this difficult period of change.
