Residents are being warned of the arrival of pest of trees called the polyphagous shot-hole borer (
Euwallacea fornicates). The beetle was found in a maple tree in a backyard in East Fremantle. The area is now quarantined so mulch, wood, containerised trees and plants can’t be moved in some parts of the suburb.
It is considered both an agricultural and environmental pest with more than 400 host species including horticulture production, native and amenity trees. Read more about this pest on the Greenlife Industry Australia website and see the map of the quarantine zone at
agric.wa.gov.au/borer. Residents are urged to report any sightings of the pest to the Exotic Plant Pest Hotline on 1800 084 881.
