NEW Ozbreed high-performance Australian native plants bred for the toughest conditions.

Ozbreed press release for HMA- March 2025 (for autumn release)

For Immediate Release

A range of new tough Australian natives have been released by Ozbreed that have excelled throughout testing in harsh conditions, including flooding, drought, frost, heat, humidity, and more. Some have been trialed in beds rife with diseases like root-rot, Phytophthora and myrtle rust.

NGIV’s Specialist Plant of the Year, 2025

Myoporum insulare ‘MYIN01′ PBR Trade Name Ground Hug™

Extremely compact groundcover with more leaves per stem. High performing living mulch that improves soil quality, smothers weed germination, and supports biodiversity with no maintenance required besides pruning back to garden edges. Up to 20cm tall (after 10 years’ growth) x 4+m wide.

Flowers in Autumn and Winter

Eremophila spp ‘EREM01’ PBR Intended Trade Name Thriver™

Beautiful pink blooms adorn this native shrub in spring and autumn. Hedge prune it lightly after flowering, or cut it hard every few years to encourage a natural shape. Emu bushes rarely thrive outside the sandy deserts of WA, but this shrubby variety has been bred for the east coast, having survived multiple floods in heavy soils rampant with root rot diseases. 1.5m high x 1.5m wide.

Correa alba ‘COR10’ PBR Trade Name Coastal Pink™

This pink-flowering variety of native fuchsia has a much-improved compact growth habit that responds extremely well to pruning. Ideal for hedging, screening, and natural un-pruned shapes in both coastal and non-coastal positions. Blooms from late autumn through winter. Up to 2m high x 2m wide.

Eremophila glabra prostrate ‘EREM1’ PBR Trade Name Blue Horizon™

A rare emu bush suitable for heavy soils and moderate humidity. Stunning grey-blue foliage is complemented by yellow flowers in winter. It survived extreme flooding in heavy clay soil near plants heavily infected with Phytophthora without breaking a sweat. 25cm high x 1m wide.

Scaevola humilis ‘PFS200’ PBR Trade Name Pink Fusion™

Flowering almost year-round, this just might be Australia’s toughest wildflower. Unlike other Australian flowering plants, this one has survived 12+ years of testing in poor soils with extreme weather events like flooding, drought, humidity and frost. 30cm high x 1.2+m wide.

Hibbertia scandens ‘HBS02’ PBR Intended Trade Name Straightup™

Specialist climbing form that grows as its name suggests, perfect for screening and making the most of small spaces. Where there’s nothing to climb, it grows as an upright shrub. Flowers all year round, with foliage that turns an attractive purple-green during winter. Up to 2m tall when supported.

Hibbertia scandens ‘HBS01′ PBR Trade Name Groundswell™

Use this Australian native creeper for low-maintenance groundcover that flowers all year round. It will climb objects where allowed, or will stay quite flat with minimal pruning required. Foliage stays an attractive dark green during warm and cold seasons. 45cm high x 2m wide.
