2023 Joy Harland Memorial Photographic Awards

The winners and runners up in each of the four categories in this year’s Joy Harland Memorial Photographic Award were announced in Melbourne on March 29 at the MIFGS Awards Dinner (aka the ‘Pumphouse’ dinner) sponsored by Seasol.

Joy Harland for whom the award is named was an exceptional garden and flower photographer whose work featured in many publications in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Her death in 1998 was a shock to all who knew her and relied on her photographs for gardening articles and books.

Although Joy’s work was pre-digital large format transparencies and our winning images this year were all taken on smart phones, it is fitting we remember her through this award, which is made every second year in tandem with the HMAA Laurels.
