HMAA Queensland Branch members, Edward and Mary Bunker, recently celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary by renewing their vows in front of fifty family and friends at the Redland Bay Uniting Church on Gordon Road, Redland Bay – the same church where the couple married. The ceremony was followed by a sumptuous afternoon tea and plenty of laughter as old times were fondly remembered.
Edward and Mary’s adult children, grandchildren and first great grandchild were present, along with the best man, bridesmaid and flower girl from the original wedding party. Childhood friends travelled from near (some still lived just down the road) and far to attend the event.
Black and white images from 1962 showed a handsome Edward and petite Mary. The elegant white gown embroidered with lily-of-the-valley worn by Mary on her wedding day was on display (and would still be a perfect fit). In a tribute to the dress and the original bouquet, a vase of fresh lily-of-the-valley was on display – a mighty effort in Brisbane where temperatures are now in the late 20s.
Edward gave an emotional speech describing the life he and Mary had shared together. According to Edward, he knew Mary was the right one immediately, but she took a bit of convincing! I am sure all HMAA members join me in congratulating Edward and Mary Bunker on their 60th wedding anniversary.
