Victorian HMAA member and author Connie Cao has won third place for her Border Garden at the 2026 Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show. Connie’s garden was all about edibles and is the first time she has created a display garden for MIFGS. Titled ‘Your Asian Veggie Patch’, Connie’s garden featured a ‘Little Street Library’ box with Connie’s book, ‘Asian Veggie Patch’, along with lush plantings of tasty fruits such as jujube, cumquat and yuzu and herbs and vegetables including Thai basil, eggplant and chilli. The Border Garden section was sponsored by Yates.
Connie said the permaculture garden was based on her book and designed to show just how much food can be grown in a small space.
