Getting ready for TC Alfred

HMAA Executive Committee member and nurseryman, Queenslander David Furness, describes preparations for the impending arrival for Alfred. Although a tropical cyclone is rare for Brisbane and environs, natural disasters are not.

Preparation is the key for all of us in SE QLD and Northern NSW as we experience another weather event. Two flooding events and a mini cyclone have been experienced by our industry in recent years and now we are facing TC Alfred.

The nursery industry is a resilient industry, and we will continue to do whatever it takes to support each other and keep our businesses going.

Some nurseries are expecting damage and have booked roofing teams for Monday.

Most retail nurseries are closed for Thursday and Friday and production nurseries have arranged small teams who are on call to monitor the situation.

The industry has been working with major customers this week and pushing deliveries into the coming weeks. The NGIQ Trade Day was postponed until next week.
