George Hoad AM honoured at Government House

George Hoad AM after being presented with his medal at Government House in Sydney.

On a glorious sunny Sydney day, HMAA Secretary, George Hoad received his AM from the Governor of New South Wales, Her Excellency Margaret Beasley AC QC.

George was appointed an AM (Member of the Order of Australia) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List in 2021. His investiture ceremony in September was cancelled due to COVID as was the rescheduled ceremony in October. It was third time lucky when George, accompanied by his mother and sister, made the trip from the Manning Valley to Sydney on February 15.

George said it was a lovely ceremony with Government House filled with flowers. He particularly noticed the new carpet in the Ballroom where the ceremony took place as it featured banksias. The Governor told him that the carpet was commissioned in memory of the devastating bushfires of 2019 and 2020. A little research has revealed that the carpet was created by Jenny Jones and was hand-carved from silk. See more at Jenny’s Facebook page.
