January 2025 update:
This glass sculpture, created by a world-famous contemporary glass artist, will become a permanent fixture in the Adelaide Botanic Gardens. It’s thanks to Dr Pamela Wall OAM, who has generously purchased the Glacier Ice and Lapis Chandelier, designed by Dale Chihuly specifically for the Botanic Garden’s Palm House, for it to remain in the garden permanently.
October 2024 update
The piece has become a crowd favourite in the ‘Chihuly in the Botanic Garden’ exhibition.
‘Chihuly in the Gardens’ has gone off with a bang. The exhibition of glass artist Dale Chihuly’s work opened at Adelaide Botanic Garden in late September to much acclaim and runs until April 29, 2025. It is the first time Chihuly’s work has been exhibited in Australia and will be shown only in Adelaide.
Early reports from Adelaide are that attendances have exceeded all expectations. The opening two weeks of the exhibition exceeded all expectations. The official launch in September attracted 10,529 visits across the various event experiences, breaking the Adelaide Botanic Garden’s previous daily visitation record set in 2023.
Since then, the record high continues to be reset. As of October 12, 2024, the Garden’s new daily visitation record stands at 15,576, set on Monday, October 7, with total visitation across the first 18 days being 180,302.
Entry to the outdoor exhibition, which features 15 pieces, is free. Bookings are required for the full display in the Conservatory (entry $14 adults, $12 concession, children under 12 free). For more information, see the attached media release.
