Brilliant sun-orchid seedling success

News from Noushka Reiter from the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria about a program to save native orchids from extinction.

The brilliant sun-orchid is critically endangered and the RBGV Orchid Conservation Program is working with program partners to prevent extinction of this species. Seedlings of the critically endangered brilliant Sun-orchid were ready to be transferred to bigger containers this week. These seedlings will be supplemented into populations in future years with our ‘Preventing Extinction of Victoria’s Threatened Flora Program’.
This research is funded by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action’s Nature Fund. The ‘Preventing Extinction of Victoria’s Threatened Flora Program’ is led by the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria in partnership with La Trobe University, Australian Network for Plant Conservation, DEECA, Trust for Nature, Wimmera Catchment Management Authority, Nillumbik Shire, Parks Victoria, ENVITE, Bairnsdale and District Field Naturalists Club, Friends of the Grampians Gariwerd, WAMA Botanic Gardens, Halls Gap Botanic Gardens and the Australian Native Orchid Society Victorian Branch.
