School awards encourage gardening

The Victorian Schools Garden Awards have just been presented. HMAA sponsors the Best Habitat Garden Award.

The winner of Best Habitat Garden Award for 2025 was Little Yarra Seiner School with Jackson School placed second and Montmorency Primary placed third. Cathy Rideg from the Nursery and Garden Industry Victoria presented the award.

This year, the award prize structure was changed. Instead of allocating one award per school category (size), prizes were awarded to the top three highest-scoring schools or kindergartens. A first, second, and third prize were awarded with vouchers to the value of $1200, $1000 and $800.

In acknowledging the HMAA’s sponsorship, Tania Karmitos, Program Co-ordinator, said: “I sincerely thank Horticulture Media Association Australia for its continued support of our Awards programs.

“Your generosity grows far more than school gardens; it strengthens student learning through valuable, hands-on learning that reaches well beyond the classroom.”
