Grow It Local and Garage Sale Trail presents Australia’s Biggest Plant Sale

Grow It Local has teamed up with national reuse event Garage Sale Trail to turn this weekend’s massive weekend of sales into Australia’s biggest plant sale – with 5,188 garage sales across the country featuring plants, seedlings and gardening gear.

Held this weekend, Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 November, Garage Sale Trail 2025 will see an estimated 300,000 Australians shopping and selling at more than 13,000 garage sales nationwide, with a huge 4.7 million items listed for sale.

This year, thanks to the partnership with Grow It Local, thousands of those sales are going green, spotlighting plants, seeds, seedlings, tools, pots, compost gear and all the bits and pieces that help people grow more of their own food at home.

“Australians love a bargain and they’re falling in love with growing food too,” said Darryl Nichols, co-founder of Grow It Local and Garage Sale Trail. “By turning unwanted gardening gear, extra seedlings and spare plants into treasure, we’re helping more people get growing while cutting waste to landfill. It’s good for people’s hip pockets, good for the planet and good fun.”

From balconies to backyards, school gardens to community plots, the partnership aims to:

• Drive reuse of gardening tools, pots and equipment that might otherwise end up in landfill

• Make growing food more accessible, with low-cost or free plants, seeds and seedlings

• Connect neighbours and communities through patch-to-plate stories, tips and plant swaps

• Support fundraising for schools, community groups and local causes

Australians can search for local plant-themed sales, gardening gear and gardening-mad neighbours taking part this weekend by visiting garagesaletrail.com.au.
