Postcard of crepe myrtles

A recent quick trip from Beaufort in western Victoria to Sydney to see grandchildren provided an opportunity to enjoy the horticultural displays in various country towns along the way. A common small street and garden tree in many towns visited were crape or crepe myrtles (Lagerstroemia indica) in stunning full flower.

We spotted deep magenta (e.g. in Corryong’s main street) to white, and various pink shades in between. Gundagai had an impressive diversity of colours and what looked like a recent main street landscape refresh of white crepe myrtles combined with Buxus hedges that looked very smart.
