Exclusive HMA SA Event: Behind the Turf at Adelaide Oval

A St Patrick’s Day Great Green Day Experience

The Horticulture Media Association of South Australia warmly invites you to a unique, behind-the-scenes experience at Adelaide Oval—Australia’s most iconic sporting ground—perfectly timed to coincide with St Patrick’s Day, making it a fitting celebration of all things green.

This exclusive 60‑minute tour offers a rare opportunity to step onto the world-class turf and hear directly from one of Adelaide Oval’s senior groundspeople in a private Turf Talk session. You’ll gain insider insight into the meticulous care, innovation and expertise that keeps the Oval’s playing surface in peak condition year round—an ideal way to mark a “great green day” with fellow horticulture professionals.

Perfectly timed, this tour takes place just days before the first AFL match of the season and only three days after the final scheduled cricket match, giving attendees a fascinating look at the transport and preparation of the Oval’s drop‑in pitches during one of the busiest periods of the sporting calendar. There will be ample time for questions and discussion—so bring your curiosity!

Following the Turf Talk, we’ll venture inside the heritage‑listed Adelaide Oval scoreboard, learning how this much‑loved landmark continues to operate 115 years after its construction.

To round out the afternoon, we’ll also enjoy a gentle walk through the historic plantings surrounding Adelaide Oval, highlighting significant trees and landscapes that form part of the broader Adelaide Parklands—an important green legacy woven into the Oval’s setting.
